Ableton Knowledge MCP Server

Official Ableton connector that grounds Claude's answers in Ableton product documentation for Live, Push, Move, Note, Link, and Max for Live.

Overview

Ableton Knowledge is the official Ableton connector for Claude, launched in April 2026 alongside eight other creative-tool connectors from partners including Adobe, Blender, Autodesk, and Splice. It is a retrieval-style MCP connector hosted by Ableton and Anthropic, not a self-hosted server: users add it from the Claude connector directory and it appears as a tool inside any Claude chat. The connector grounds Claude's answers in Ableton's own product documentation, so responses about features, workflows, and parameter behavior cite version-correct material rather than relying on model memory.

The connector indexes Ableton's product surface area: Live, Push, Move, Note, Cloud, Link, and Max for Live, along with product manuals, knowledge base articles, and the transcripts of Ableton's video tutorials. Typical questions include things like "how do I set up sidechain compression in Live 12," "what is the right way to warp vocal samples," or "how do I record a clip on Push 3 standalone." Because it pulls from official docs, it works well for learning, troubleshooting, and looking up exact parameter names or menu paths.

It is important to note what the connector is not. It is a knowledge connector, not a DAW control layer. It cannot read your .als session, inspect clip or MIDI data, move faders, arm tracks, load devices, or generate audio or MIDI. For direct control of a running Live session, users typically pair it with community projects such as ahujasid/ableton-mcp, which speak to Live through a local Remote Script.

Tools

Tool Description
Ableton product knowledge search Retrieve grounded answers from Ableton's official documentation, knowledge base articles, and video tutorial transcripts across Live, Push, Move, Note, Cloud, Link, and Max for Live. The connector exposes a retrieval tool to Claude rather than direct DAW control. Specific internal tool names are not publicly documented.
Setup Guide

Ableton Knowledge is a hosted connector, not a self-hosted MCP server. There is no install command, config file, or local process to run.

Add the connector in Claude:

  • Open Claude at claude.ai and sign in
  • Go to Settings, then Connectors (or open the connector directory at https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/ant.dir.gh.ableton.ableton-knowledge)
  • Find "Ableton Knowledge" and click Connect, then complete the authentication prompts
  • In a new chat, open the tools menu (the + button) and toggle Ableton Knowledge on

For Claude Team or Enterprise: an Owner must enable the connector at the organization level before individual members can turn it on.

For Claude Desktop / Cursor / other MCP clients: as of launch the connector is distributed through the Claude.ai directory. If you want to use it from an MCP client that supports custom remote connectors, follow the client's flow for adding a remote MCP connector and select Ableton Knowledge from the available directory connectors. The connector handles authentication on its own, so no API key is required from the user.

No Ableton login, Live install, or local Remote Script is required for the knowledge connector itself. It only reads from public product documentation.

Use Cases
  • Look up exact menu paths, parameter names, and signal flow in Ableton Live 12 without leaving the chat.
  • Get step by step Push 3 standalone workflows, for example recording a clip, building a kit, or routing a return.
  • Clarify how Live features interact, such as warping modes, sidechain routing, MIDI effect order, or Max for Live device behavior.
  • Help producers learning Move or Note understand what each control does by citing the official manual.
  • Pair with a control-focused server like ahujasid/ableton-mcp so Claude can both answer "how do I" questions and execute the steps inside Live.
Example Prompts
  • "How do I set up sidechain compression on a bass track in Live 12?"
  • "Walk me through recording a clip on Push 3 in standalone mode."
  • "What are the differences between Beats, Tones, Texture, and Re-Pitch warp modes in Live?"
  • "Show me how to build a Max for Live device that maps a knob to a parameter."
  • "How does Ableton Link sync tempo between Live and Note?"
Pros
  • Official Ableton connector, so answers are grounded in current, version-correct product documentation rather than model memory.
  • Zero setup: no local server, no Python, no JSON config, no Remote Script.
  • Broad coverage across the Ableton product family, including Live, Push, Move, Note, Cloud, Link, and Max for Live, plus video tutorial transcripts.
  • Available across Claude plans, including Free, per Anthropic's launch notes.
Limitations
  • Read-only knowledge layer. It cannot control Live, read .als sessions, edit MIDI, drive Push hardware, or analyze audio.
  • No public tool schema or open-source repo, so behavior cannot be inspected or self-hosted.
  • Described by Ableton as experimental, so coverage and answer quality may shift, and users should verify critical answers against the manual.
